York Gets Much-Needed Victory over Hunter in Men’s Basketball

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The York College men's basketball team got back in the win column on Friday night with an 82-60 victory over Hunter College.

Newcomer Chad Coachman, who was making his season debut, gave the Cardinals a boost they desperately needed, scoring a team-high 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting, while adding four assists, five rebounds and four steals.  Ryan Smart added 16 points as well, and Rashaan Bailey had 12 points, five rebounds and four steals.  Anthony Mason scored seven points and pulled down 13 rebounds.

Coming off its worst shooting night of the season in its previous game, York followed with its best shooting performance of the year, connecting on 34 of 66 shots (51.5 percent).

The game was close for most of the first half, but York went on a 19-3 run over the final seven minutes to turn a three-point deficit into a 40-27 lead at the break.  York built on that momentum in the second half, not allowing Hunter back into the game and extending its lead by as many as 25 points to run away with the victory.

York is now 3-11, 1-5 CUNYAC.  Hunter drops to 1-13, 1-5 CUNYAC.  York hosts William Paterson University on Monday at 7 p.m.
