BROOKLYN, N.Y.-- The York College men's basketball team defeated Medgar Evers College, 78-71, on the road Wednesday night, earning their fourth win in its last five games.
Chad Coachman led York with a career-high 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting while also dishing out four assists.
Anthony Mason and
Ryan St. John added 10 points, while
Ryan Smart recorded eight points and 13 boards.
Medgar Evers was led by Matthew Lee, who had 22 points and Maurice Swaby, who netted 20 points.
The game was a close contest throughout. Medgar Evers held a 2-point lead at halftime, but things started to turn the Cardinals way early in the second half. A
Chad Coachman three-pointer put York on top, 45-43, with 16:56 to go. The Cardinals never relinquished the lead from there. A 6-0 run, gave York a ten-point lead with just under 12 minutes to play. The Cougars cut the deficit down to three, only to see York go on another big run and push the lead to double digits.
With the win, York is 6-12, 3-6 CUNYAC, while Medgar Evers is 7-11, 4-5 CUNYAC. The Cardinals will visit CCNY on Friday at 7 p.m.
