OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Despite losing in three sets (25-16, 25-18, 25-22), the York women's volleyball team put up a strong fight in each frame.
The Cardinals came out strong, leading the first set 10-6 with two kills coming from
Kiranjeet Kaur. Old Westbury then took control, going on an 11-0 run and eventually closing out the frame 25-16. York once again started strong in the next set, jumping out to a 5-3 advantage. York's leader in kills,
Renee Daley tallied four in the second set, but it was not enough to overcome Old Westbury, as the Cardinals fell 25-18. The Cardinals would not go out without a fight; the third set remained close throughout with OW's largest lead being only five points. Old Westbury went on to win the frame 25-22 and the game, 3-0.
Old Westbury was led by Rayn Braun with eight kills and 14 digs. Chelsey Hoffman also added eight kills for the Panthers. Although the Cardinals lost, both Daley and
Shauncia McClendon had eight kills adding to their impressive season totals of 102 and 81 respectively. Kaur recording a hitting percentage of .750 while contributing 19 assists to the Cardinals offense.
Mary Pamolarco had 19 digs, as she continues to lead the team in the category with 131 so far this season.
The loss makes York's record 3-11 for the season.The Cardinals will have two chances to improve their record this Saturday, October 3rd with a multi-match in Wayne, New Jersey. York takes the court against William Patterson University at 11:00 a.m. and again facing Mount Saint Mary College (NY) later in the day at 3:00 p.m.
