Women's Soccer Earns Shutout Victory against CCNY

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Led by an outstanidng performance in net by Sarah Hilaire, the York College women's soccer team moved to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in CUNYAC play with a 1-0 shutout win against the City College of New York on Wednesday afternoon.

The CCNY Beavers came out aggressively, putting four shots on net within the first 30 minutes of action.  Kennisha Wills broke the tie for York, scoring her team-leading tenth goal of the season in the 29th minute by slipping one past the CCNY goaltender from the right side of the net.

The rest of the game belonged to Cardinals junior goalkeeper Sarah Hilaire.  She faced an onslaught of offense by CCNY throughout the second half.  She turned away eight shots in the final 45 minutes, making her game total an astounding 13.  Not only did she impress with her total stats, but her poise in the net under pressure late in the game ensured victory for the Cardinals. In the 82nd minute, Hilaire blocked a shot from CCNY's Elif Demirican, and once again saved the game in the 89th minute denying a shot on net by Marissa Olsen.

The York victory is Hilaire's second shutout of the season and brings her season total in saves to 74.  The win was a crucial one for York, as they now move into the fourth place in the CUNYAC standings. The top four teams earn a playoff bid at season's end.

The Cardinals will take the field again Saturday, October 3rd  at 12:00 p.m. against Brooklyn College at Aviator Field in Brooklyn.
