BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The York women's soccer team lost a challenging match to Brooklyn College Saturday afternoon at Aviator Field by a score of 3-0. The loss leaves the Cardinals at 3-5 overall and 2-3 in CUNYAC match-ups.
With wind gusts approaching 30mph and temperatures hovering just below 50 degrees, the Cardinals took to the field against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs. The weather played a factor in the first half as York had to battle directly into a heavy northeasterly wind. The Bulldogs Leslie Gomez scored first at 5:29 on a defensive miscommunication by the Cardinals possibly influenced by the strong gusts. Brooklyn College wasted no time in adding another goal at 11:21 when Stefany Ibarra made good on a centering pass from Jordan Kerwin. At the half the score stood at 2-0.
With sides reversed and the Bulldogs now facing a head wind, play evened out, remaining 2-0 until the 80th minute when Shan Nakhid-Schuster fired a laser just under the cross bar. The game finished 3-0 in favor of Brooklyn College. Despite the loss, Sarah Hillaire had another strong performance in net, turning away 11 shots adding to her season total of 85 saves.
The Cardinals will be on the road for their next match up against The College at Old Westbury on Monday, October 5th in Old Westbury, NY.
