Cardinals Men’s Soccer Faces Late Rally in Loss to CCNY

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The York men's soccer team took to the field ready to play against The City College of New York and battled steadily until CCNY rallied for three goals in the final ten minutes to defeat the Cardinals, 5-1.

The first half began with a steady controlled pace from CCNY.  York had their first scoring opportunity at 16:06 with a precise header from Luis Cordero that was turned away by the Beaver's goalkeeper Marcus De Pompeis. Christopher Lavelle had the first scoring chance for CCNY but was denied in dramatic fashion by Stefano Archangel with a one-handed save forcing the ball up over the crossbar.

Lanfia Diaby broke the 0-0 draw for CCNY at 25:26 when he bent a corner kick just enough to find the back of the net.  Oscar Rojas evened the score at 33:05 for the Cardinals making good off of a rebound fired on net by Rohan Burrell.  This was the second goal of the year for Rojas.  Even play continued throughout the half until shortly before the horn, Kenan Redzematovic scored from 18 yards into the right corner of the net.

The second half started with a score of 2-1 in favor of CCNY.  The pace and physicality of play picked up considerably.  Stefano Archangel made his second spectacular save of the night deflecting a shot above the crossbar fired on net by Luis Castillo.  The score remained 2-1 until the 80th minute when Radzematovic scored his second goal of the night slipping one pass the Cardinals goalkeeper into the left side of the night.  This began a late rally for the Beaver's as they would score two more goals before the final horn sounded making the final score 5-1 in deceptive fashion.

The Cardinals fall to 0-5-1, 0-1 CUNYAC on the season. York will take the field again on Tuesday the 22nd against Farmingdale State College at 5:00 p.m. at Aviator Field in Brooklyn.
