Second-Half Surge Gives Lehman Decisive Victory over York Women’s Soccer

BRONX, N.Y.— After keeping the match scoreless for nearly the entire first half, the York College women's soccer team struggled mightily in the second half of action and fell to Lehman College, 7-0, in its first CUNY Athletic Conference match of the season.

Despite being outshout badly in the first half, the York defense kept Lehman at bay for the first 42 minutes of action.  However, in the 43rd minute, the Lightning finally broke through, scoring on a cross that was put in by Lillian Barreto.   Just under two minutes later, Lightning struck again, with Chelsey Harris scoring on a rocket from 15 yards out with just 26 seconds left in the half.

Perhaps a bit deflated from allowing two late, first-half goals, the Cardinals imploded in the second half, allowing Lehman to score five more times.  Daisy Gomez made it 3-0 on an unassisted goal in the 51st minute, and Lehman then proceeded to score four more goals in just a 13-minute span to leave no doubt about the outcome.

Lehman improves to 5-1, 1-0 CUNYAC, while the Cardinals fall to 1-3, 0-1 CUNYAC.  York returns to action on Saturday against Medgar Evers College at 4 p.m. The match will be played at Kingsborough Community College.
