JAMAICA, N.Y. – The York men's soccer team suffered a tough loss at the hands of the Bard College Raptors this afternoon by a score of 6-0.
Having not faced Bard College in recent years proved to be a challenge, as Bard struck early with a blast from Brendan Byrne in the
3rd minute of the match. Byrne followed up with another goal from close range at 10:39. David Mamukelashvill of Bard struck next at 21:27 off a crossing pass from Nick Shenberger. A 30-minute thunder delay just before the end of the first half further hindered a comeback strategy for the Cardinals.
York started the second half with a three-goal deficit. Cardinals goalkeeper
Stefano Archangel faced a steady onslaught of offense from Bard throughout the match, yet was able to turn away a respectable seven shots on net. Bard added three more goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half, capped off by a breakaway goal from Denesh Kandiah at 59:18. Play then settled down shortly after with no goals from either side for the duration of the competition. The match ended with a flurry of 3 shots by the Cardinals in the last 10 minutes but none found the back of the net.
Bard is now 3-0-1 on the season, while York drops to 0-4. York Men's soccer will have an opportunity to regroup against a more familiar opponent, St Joseph's College – Brooklyn, Wednesday the 16th at Aviator Field.
