PURCHASE N.Y. –– Despite the hot start from the Cardinals softball team, Yeshiva University took a pair of games on Sunday afternoon, 8-4 and 15-2.
In game one,
Karen Werner got things started with a lead-off walk. Werner would eventually steal second base and reach third, due to a wild pitch.
Chyla Guevara would later bring in Werner with a RBI ground out to take the early, 1-0 lead.
Yeshiva University (5-11), responded back, scoring two runs in the next two innings, taking the 2-1 lead.
Later in the top of the third inning, the Cardinals would rally to score three runs, to jump out to the 4-2 lead.
Melanie Choy brought in Werner with a RBI single down the right field line, tying the game at 2-2. Batting seventh in the lineup,
Melissa Janvier ripped a two-RBI single to bring home Guevara and Choy for the 4-2 lead.
The lead was short lived though, the Maccabees would take the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning with four straight runs and would tack on two more to close the game out.
Yeshiva was lead by Erin Potasnick, who was 3-for-4, with 2 RBIs and Rachel Siegel, who went 1-for-4, but had 2 RBIs for the game.
For York (3-22), Werner was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, while Guevara went 2-for-4 in the game, with an RBI. Janvier went 1-for-3, with a pair of RBIs.
In game two, Yeshiva University pulled away early for the 15-2 win. The Maccabees would score the first 12 runs in the game before the Cardinals would get on the scoreboard.
Darlene Judan had the lone RBI for the Cardinals and finished the game 1-for-1, with a walk.
The Maccabees were lead by Erin Potasnick, who finished the game 4-for-4, and a game-high, seven RBIs.
