Softball Rallies to Defeat New Rochelle

NEW YORK, N.Y— The York College softball team exploded for nine runs in the final two innings to erase an early deficit and defeat the College of New Rochelle, 12-4, on Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals found themselves in an early hole, after surrendering four runs in the top of the first.  However, York chipped away at the lead by scoring one run each of the first three innings.  York then completed the comeback and then some, by scoring five runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth inning.

Freshman Darlene Judan earned her first career victory, tossing six innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out four runs.  Chyla Guevara was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI to lead York on offense.  Karen Werner plate three runs and Melanie Choy added two RBIs.

York was slated to play a doubleheader against the Blue Angels but was unable to complete the second game due to a field permit issue at Randall's Island, which forced the Cardinals off the field before the finish.  York had a commanding lead after two innings of play when the game was stopped.  No decision has been made on whether this game will be completed.
