JAMAICA, N.Y. – The York men's tennis team nearly earned their first victory of the season against St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn on a windy Tuesday afternoon, losing 6-3.
Despite the outcome, York (0-12) did have several players perform well.
Hasnain Khatri excelled in his first match as the #1 singles, defeating Kevin Caicedo, 6-4, 7-5. This was Khatri's third win of the season and perhaps his most complete match.
Both
Kalsang Chhosphel and
Rashawn Cream played well. Chhosphel defeated Kyle Johnson in a three-set thriller, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-1. His victory was the first on the season. Cream also played in a three-set contest, beating Dickson Tan, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. It was Cream's first victory of the season as well.
Khatri and Chhsophel nearly squeaked out a victory in the #1 doubles match, losing to the Bears, 9-7.
The win was St. Joseph's first-ever victory against the Cardinals. York had won the previous six meetings. The Bears improve to 3-6 with the victory. Next, the Cardinals will travel to New Jersey to take on Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday, April 28 at 5 p.m.
