Following a sloppy first set, where York committed seven hitting errors and four service errors, the Cardinals were in danger of going down 2-0, with the second set going down to the wire. The score was tied at 24-24, but York got a kill from Geffrard and then a hitting error by John Jay to even up the match.
The third set was all York, thanks to an 8-2 run that took the score from 11-11 to 19-13. The Cardinals also won the fourth set comfortably, after they jumped out to a 17-11 advantage and never looked back.
The win improves York's record to 12-13 overall and 11-2 in CUNYAC play. John Jay drops to 9-6 overall, 8-4 CUNYAC. It was an important conference win for York, as they now have a two-game lead over the Bloodhounds for third place in the CUNYAC standings.
York returns to John Jay College this Saturday but will not face the Bloodhounds. York play in a quad match there, taking on #4 Juniata College at 11 a.m. and St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) at 1 p.m.
