JAMAICA, N.Y. – On a night where seniors
Edner Geffrard and
Sebastien Francois were honored, the York College men's volleyball team defeated Brooklyn College in straight sets, 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-12).
The two seniors led the way in their final home contest at York. Geffrard ended his senior night with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .471, while his senior teammate Francois finished with eight kills and a hitting percentage of .462.
Facing a winless Brooklyn team, York (9-13, 8-2 CUNYAC) came into the first set with the confidence that they were going to win. Brooklyn could not stop the Cardinals attack. Midway through the set York led 14-6. The Bulldogs stayed close due to the errors of York. Otherwise, Brooklyn (0-20, 0-8 CUNYAC) had little chance to take the set. York won the set easily, 25-12.
The second set started differently than one would expect. Brooklyn came out strong, showing more energy and motivation than the Cardinals. Early on in the set, Brooklyn was within two points, trailing 7-5. However,
Randy Adams attack gave York momentum, as the Bulldogs had no answer for his powerful spikes. From there, York closed out Brooklyn, 25-12.
The emotions of senior night contributed to the hot start of the third set, as York scored the first five points behind the strong serving of Adams. However, Brooklyn would claw their way back, erasing a large lead. Early in the set, York only was ahead by two points, leading 9-7. Despite the comeback, York regained their composure to increase their lead and eventually took the set, 25-12.
Also contributing for York was
Androw Soliman who totaled 23 assists and four digs.
Randy Adams was dangerous serving the ball, racking up four aces along with having a hitting percentage of .455.
Frederis Tapia recorded four kills and a hitting percentage of .800. Vaughn Ford led Brooklyn with five kills.
