Baruch Spoils Senior Day for Women’s Basketball

JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College women's basketball team had no answer for first-place Baruch College on Sunday afternoon, losing on senior day to the Bearcats, 86-51.
Prior to the game, the Cardinals honored its three seniors—Nia Rene, Tamika Taylor, and Stayce Kay Muirhead—but the smiles would end there for York, as Baruch (17-4, 13-0 CUNYAC) put the game away early.

Baruch opened the game with the first 12 points, holding the Cardinals scoreless for nearly six minutes.  They continued to play stifling defense throughout, holding York to 28.1 percent shooting on the afternoon.  Meanwhile, on offense the Bearcats used a balanced scoring attack with six players reaching double figures in points.   Sheridan Taylor led the way with a game-high 18 points and 11 boards.

In the loss, York (4-9, 7-14 CUNYAC) got contributions from its three seniors.  Tamika posted a line of 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Rene had nine points and Muirhead grabbed 10 rebounds.  Muirhead now has 959 boards for her career, as she tries to reach 1,000 before the end of the season.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday with a road CUNYAC contest against John Jay College. It will be an important game for the Cardinals as York will look to avenge an earlier loss to the Bloodhounds and hold on to the sixth seed in the upcoming CUNYAC playoffs. York holds a 1/2 game lead over John Jay for the #6 spot.
