# 9 Baruch Tops York in Men’s Volleyball

NEW YORK, N.Y. — The York College men's volleyball team met up with #9 Baruch College on Wednesday night for the first time since last year's CUNYAC title game, and unfortunately for York, the result was the same, as the Cardinals lost 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-23) to the Bearcats.

Randy Adams led York (3-8, 2-1 CUNYAC) in the loss with eight kills, while Edner Geffrard added six digs. Sebastien Francois and Frederis Tapia each had three blocks. It was York's second meeting with a nationally ranked team this season, having played #1 Stevens in the season opener.

Baruch (5-1, 3-0 CUNYAC) got ten kills and a .350 hitting percentage from Nick Smith and seven kills and a .500 hitting percentage from Yanni Malo.

Baruch dominated the first two sets, holding York to just seven combined kills, while recording 24 kills of their own in the same period.  The third set was much more competitive.  York had five blocks in the set, which resulted in Baruch hitting just -.025.

The two teams were knotted up at 18-18, until Baruch scored four straight, with three points coming from aces by Malo to make it 22-18.  York battled to tie it up at 23-23, hoping to force a fourth set, but Scott Standring served up two more aces to finish off the match.

York will be back at it on Monday at the second CUNYAC multi-match of the season held at Hunter College.  York faces John Jay College at 9 a.m. and the City College of New York at 1 p.m.
