JAMAICA, N.Y— The York College women's basketball team could not contain the offense of the City College of New York, falling to the Beavers by a score of 73-56 on Friday night at the York College Gymnasium.
York got the opening bucket of the game on a three-pointer from
Angelika Ruggiano, but it was all downhill from there. CCNY followed with a 13-0 run, taking an early ten-point lead. They then followed with another big run—a 13-4 stretch—and took a commanding 37-15 lead midway through the second quarter. The Cardinals had no answer for the Beavers in the first half.
York played better in the third quarter, outscoring CCNY 19-13.
Jigcara Grant had eight points, while Ruggiano netted seven points in the quarter, closing the deficit to 58-39. In the fourth quarter, York briefly closed the gap to 16 points on a Ruggiano three, but CCNY quickly quelled any momentum for the Cardinals, responding with a three-point play by Taylor Pompilio and putting the game away for good.
CCNY's Tiara Brown could not be stopped all night, finishing with 27 points on 12-of-16 shooting, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Erika Richards added 14 points and three steals.
Ruggiano continued her strong season for York, finishing with 19 points and connecting on four three-pointers.
