NEW YORK, N.Y.— The York College women's basketball team kept it close against the defending CUNYAC Champs—Baruch College—in the first half, but the Bearcats proved to be too much and ran away with a 71-49 victory over the Cardinals Friday night.
After trailing by double digits midway through the second quarter, York made a late run thanks to some strong shooting by
Samantha Bond and
Shanelle Baldwin and cut the lead to just six points at the half (29-23).
They briefly closed to within three at the beginning of the second half, but then Baruch caught fire, outscoring York 21-5 the rest of the quarter. The Cardinals could not recover from there.
Bond had a big game for York, scoring 21 points, and
Jigcara Grant recorded her fourth straight double-double (11 points, 20 rebounds).
Baruch's Jacqueline Kennedy was unstoppable, scoring 34 points, grabbing 21 rebounds and blocking five shots.
The Cardinals fall to 2-8, 1-3 CUNYAC, while Baruch improves to 3-3, 2-1 CUNYAC. York returns to action on December 30th when they host Old Westbury at 6 p.m.
