JAMAICA, N.Y.--The York Women's basketball took the floor for their fourth game of the season for a rare out-of-conference opponent Nazareth College on Friday evening.
Nazareth took an early lead to start the game, complimented by strong defense. Freshman
Claudia Rhoden displayed some of her skill with a quick turn around jumper that found the basket for her first points of the game. Lindsey Kelly of Nazareth hurt the Cardinals down low going 5-for-5 from the field in the first quarter. Despite a consistent effort from the Cardinals, they trailed the Golden Flyers 23-7 after the first frame.
Shanelle Baldwin came off the bench for the Cardinals in the second quarter, scoring six points in quick succession, switching momentum of the game and forcing a time out from the Golden Flyers. Nazareth would push back however, with the score at the half 41-21 in favor of the Flyers.
Lindsey Kelly continued to be a challenge for the Cardinals in the paint, finishing with 21 points overall. Nazareth outscored York 20-9 in the third quarter.
Angelika Ruggiano hit her second three of the game as the quarter wound down. Ruggiano would start the fourth quarter off in the same fashion, making good on a deep three and starting a 6-0 run for the Cardinals.
Nazareth proved to be too much for York, with the game ending 72–43. Ruggiano Led the Cardinals in scoring with 13 points and added three steals on defense.
Jigcara Grant had a solid defensive game with eight rebounds. The Cardinals take to the hardwood again against Medgar Evers November 24
th at home in the York College Gymnasium at 6 p.m. Last season, York defeated Medgar Evers in both meetings.
