York Women’s Basketball Falls to Oglethorpe

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – The York College women's basketball team fell to Oglethorpe University in the final game of the St. Mary's Tournament. The 83-45 defeat drops York to 0-2.

York struggled to produce offensive efficiency throughout the entire game. The Cardinals shot just 26% from the field, including a 2-15 clip from downtown. York has great shooters, especially beyond the arc; however, they could not find their rhythm.

Turnovers also hurt York. Oglethorpe was able to capitalize off the Cardinals' mistakes and score 43 points. Oglethorpe protected the ball well and only allowed 11 points off turnovers.

York had a strong showing from Jigcara Grant. Grant grabbed 17 rebounds in 33 minutes of work. Freshman Sheahna Roscher was a bright spot, providing 11 points total on 50% shooting. Angelika Ruggiano added 11 points as well and was named to the All-Tournament team, averaging 13 points per contest.

Emily Buck, who had a game-high18 points and four steals, led the Stormy Petrels. Bailey Charles chipped in 12 points (5-6 FG).

York returns to Jamaica to play Yeshiva in the home opener on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Live Stats will be provided and can be found at yorkathletics.com/coverage.
