Women’s Volleyball Serves up 28 Aces in Sweep of Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y.— The York College women's volleyball team won its second match in as many nights with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-18) victory at Purchase College Friday night.  York had its most aces in a match since 2009, recording 28 in just three sets.

Kiranjeet Kaur was the biggest contributor at the service line, recording eight aces, while Tiandra Jones had seven—both were career highs.  Argenis Contreras added five aces and Nathy Reyes chipped in four.

Shauncia McClendon, who was coming off a career-high in kills the night before, had another big effort, recording 12 kills.  Renee Daley added seven kills.

York cruised to a first-set victory, thanks to a quick 6-1 start in which Tiandra Jones registered three of her aces.  The Cardinals fell behind, 10-6, in set #2 but rallied to score nine straight points and never looked back. The final set once again saw York jump out in front to a comfortable lead early.

The win improves York's record to 6-19, while Purchase falls to 0-21.  The Cardinals have now completed the regular season and will set their sights on the CUNYAC playoffs on Tuesday.  They will have a tough task in the quarterfinals as they will take on Hunter College, the #2 seed, at 6:30 p.m. on the road.
