BROOKLYN, N.Y.— A goal by freshman
Antonella Campos in the first overtime lifted the York College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless regulation, the Cardinals finally broke through in the 97th minute when junior
Shanique Hill lofted a ball over the top of the Sarah Lawrence defenders and found Campos, who was all alone racing towards the goal. As the Sarah Lawrence keeper came up to cut off the angle, Campo rifled the ball into the lower-left corner of the net for the golden goal.
Prior to that, it had been a frustrating game for the Cardinals, as they saw several missed opportunities throughout. The Cardinals came up short on a couple breakaway and were stymied by Gryphons keeper Addie Rosenberg.
Sarah Lawrence (4-11) also had a number of scoring opportunities, especially in the second half, but York keeper
Sarah Hilaire turned away 10 shots to preserve the shutout.
York improves to 5-8 with the victory. They return to action on Friday, October 30 for the penultimate game of the season, when they host SUNY Canton at 3 p.m.
