JAMAICA, N.Y— The York College women's volleyball team returned home on Friday night after six straight matches on the road, and they were greeted rudely by the College of St. Elizabeth, who defeated the Cardinals 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-12).
St. Elizabeth controlled the match throughout, leading nearly the entire way with the exception of a 2-0 lead by York in the second set. The Eagles used a balanced, efficient attack to defeat York, led by Miaela Gongora and Christy Marte, who each recorded seven kills apiece. As a team, they finished with 32 kills and hit .170, compared to just 15 kills for York.
In the loss, York got five kills from
Shauncia McClendon and four kills and three blocks from
Renee Daley.
Mary Pamolarco led all players with 12 digs.
The Cardinals will look to rebound from the loss when they travel to the College of Staten Island on Thursday, October 22 at 7 p.m. It's an important match for the Cardinals, as both teams are tied for 7th place in the standings with a chance to move all the way up to 5th place with a victory.
