York Men’s Soccer Falls to Berkeley

NEWARK, N.J. – The York College men's soccer team was defeated by Berkeley College, 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cardinals allowed four goals in the first 25 minutes of the match. Ali Yildirim netted a goal from a nice cross from teammate Alejandro Huerta in the 4th minute. Huerta then scored in the 5th minute on an assist from Mario Hernandez. Yildirim scored his second goal of the game and fourth of the season in the 17th minute, when he scored on a pass from the left side by Patryk Praszek. Brandon Bannout came on as a substitute in the 16th minute and was able to score his first goal of the year on a cross from Ioan Espinosa nine minutes later.

Luis Cordero, the transfer from Nassau Community College, had a solid outing. In the 28th minute, he hit a rocket from 20 yards out that screamed past goalkeeper Elvis Carino. It was Cordero's first goal of the season. Oluwapelumi Akinde started in goal for the Cardinals, totaling seven saves.

The Cardinals will look to get into the win column when they go on the road to face a scrappy Medgar Evers team on October 17 at 4 p.m at Kingsborough Community College.
