Men’s Soccer Plays to Draw with Medgar Evers

BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The York College men's soccer team earned a point in the CUNYAC standings with a 1-1 draw on the road against Medgar Evers Saturday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, Medgar Evers broke through first in the 54th minute, when Lorenz Pierre-Louis executed a touch pass to Joshua Fernandez, who was able to put it past York keeper Masamba Drame.

The Cardinals got the equalizer thanks to a bit of good fortune, when an own goal by Medgar Evers after a failed attempt to clear the ball made it 1-1 in the 69th minute.

The two teams went scoreless the rest of regulation and in two overtimes.  The Cardinals had more opportunities than Medgar Evers, taking 17 shots—nine of which went on goal, while Medgar had just ten shots and four on goal.

York is now 0-12-2 overall and 0-6-1 in CUNYAC play. Medgar Evers is 2-10-1 overall and 1-4-1 CUNYAC.  The Cardinals return to action Wednesday in their final home game of the season when they take on Brooklyn College at 6 p.m.  York will need a win and some help to have any chance of qualifying for the CUNYAC playoffs.
