BOX SCORE 2 BROOKLYN, N.Y— The York College women's volleyball team earned a hard-fought, five set victory (25-20, 25-16, 22-25, 19-25, 15-9) over the City College of New York at a CUNY multi-match held at Brooklyn College on Columbus Day. Earlier in the day, the Cardinals fell to Lehman College, 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-22, 25-20).
York got a balanced effort in the CCNY match with
Renee Daley and
Shauncia McClendon each chipping in seven kills apiece, while
Tiandra Jones added six kills.
Nemesis Gallegos added four service aces.
Mary Pamolarco and
Kiranjeet Kaur led York on defense with 15 digs and 13 digs respectively. The win helps York (4-15, 2-4 CUNYAC) move up to sixth place in the CUNYAC standings.
In the first match of the day, York gave Lehman, who sits in fourth place, a tough test. After evening up the match after two sets, the Ligthning were able to edge York in the third and fourth sets to escape with the victory. McClendon and Daley led York again with seven and six kills respectively. Pamolarco had a career-high 24 digs.
York returns to action with a home match on Friday, October 16 at 6 p.m. against the College of Saint Elizabeth.
