RANDALL'S ISLAND, N.Y. – The York College Cardinals faced off against the College of Staten Island Dolphins Saturday afternoon beneath the shadows of the RFK Bridge on Randall's Island in Manhattan. CSI proved to be a difficult opponent as York lost the match by a final score of 3-0.
The Cardinals came out strong with the first scoring opportunity coming from
Luis Cordero, firing a shot off the cross bar in the first minute of action. Physical play was paramount in this CUNYAC match up with three yellow cards handed out before the first-half whistle. York goalkeeper
Stefano Archangel came up big in the first fhalf, turning away four shots to keep the score tied at 0-0 after 45 minutes.
The second half saw the Dolphins control the flow of the game. CSI broke the draw at 51:42 when Phillip Lefkowitz scored mid-air on a cross from Brayan Evo making the score 1-0. Emmanuel Agbola made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute, firing a shot past Archangel. CSI would add one more goal before the final whistle blew on a succesful cross converted by Marcin Klim, making the final 3-0. York struggled in the second half with no shots on net, in comparison to their five first-half shots.
The Cardinals will be on the road for in New Jersey for their next match up against Berkely College (NJ) in Newark on Tuesday, October 13
th at 4:00 p.m.
