York’s Second-half Struggles Lead to Loss at Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – After leading at halftime, the York College men's basketball team was outscored by 19 points in the second half and fell to Brooklyn College, 75-63, in a key CUNY Athletic Conference road contest Tuesday night.

Lorenzo Williams led the Brooklyn Bulldogs (11-2, 5-1 CUNYAC) with a game-high 27 points and 13 rebounds, while Egzon Gjonbalaj added 19 points and seven assists.

York (8-5, 3-2 CUNYAC) got a team-high 15 points from Omar St. John, and Cyril Reid chipped in 10 points.  Du'Quan Lawson had five points and six assists, while Ryan St. John added eight points off the bench.

Things started out promising for the Cardinals thanks to a 7-0 run midway through the opening half that put York ahead 27-20 with 6:56 left.  Lay-ups by Rashaan Bailey and Lawson and a 3-pointer by Ryan St. John accounted for the run.  York maintained that lead into halftime, going into the locker room up 36-29.

Brooklyn quickly erased the deficit coming out of the locker room.  3-pointers by Steven Diaz and Gjonbalaj in the first two minutes of the second half helped spark a 14-2 run for the Bulldogs, putting them up 43-38.

The Cardinals never got the lead back as Brooklyn slowly pulled away throughout the rest of the game.  York shot just 31 percent in the second half and committed 10 turnovers, which resulted in 10 second-half points for the Bulldogs.  York had 19 total turnovers, which matched a season-high.

York will look to rebound from the loss when they return to action on Friday at home against Hunter College.  Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
