Men’s Volleyball Opens Season With Loss to #2 Stevens

JAMAICA, N.Y. – The York College men's volleyball team opened up the 2015 season with a tough task in a matinee against #2 Stevens Institute of Technology. York fell to the Ducks by a score of 3-0 (25-3, 25-16, 25-10).
 
The Ducks showed why they were ranked #2 in the Preseason American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll with an impressive performance.  They hit .391 as a team, which included a near-perfect first set, where they recorded 15 kills in 16 attempts (.938).
 
Stevens' Gabe Shankweiler led all players with 10 kills, while hitting .368 and serving up three aces.  Chris Vaughan added nine kills in just 11 attempts (.727).
 
York was led held to just nine kills on the afternoon.  Senior Edner Geffrard finished with a team-high four kills and five digs.  Randy Adams had three kills and two digs. 
 
Stevens improves to 1-2 with the win, while York is 0-1.  The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday with a quad match at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.  York won't play the host school, but will take on Southern Vermont College at 11:30 a.m. and Albertus Magnus College at 2:00 p.m.
