Women’s Basketball Falls to CSI After Dolphins' Second-Half Explosion

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— A game that was separated by just two points at halftime turned quickly, as the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island scored 52 second-half points and defeated the York College women's basketball team 90-68 on Wednesday night.

It certainly looked early on like the game would go down to the wire.  In the first half alone, the score was tied seven different times.  After CSI jumped out to a nine-point lead following a Megan Myhre three-pointer, York followed with three-pointers by Angelika Ruggiano and Tamika Taylor and then a lay-up by Stayce Kay Muirhead to quickly cut the deficit down to just one point (18-17) with 10:30 left in the first half.

The game would stay close from there and into part of the second half, until things went south for York around the 11-minute mark of the second half.  With CSI holding 57-51 lead, the Dolphins exploded with 14 unanswered points in just three minutes to go up by 20 points.  They scored on six straight possessions, which included a pair of three-pointers.  Samantha Flecker was instrumental during the run, scoring nine of the 14 points.

That short, three-minute lapse by York proved to be their downfall, as the two teams played even the rest of the way, with CSI winning by a 22-point margin.

In the loss, York (4-10, 2-5 CUNYAC) was led by Tamika Taylor, who recorded a double-double (21 points, 10 rebounds) and by Samantha Bond and Angelika Ruggiano, who each ad 15 points.  Bond also finished with five assists and four steals.

CSI (8-8, 5-2 CUNYAC) got a game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds from Christina Pasaturo and 13 points from Flecker.

York's next game will be at home against John Jay College on Thursday at 6 p.m.
