Women’s Soccer Blanked by St. Joseph’s
BOX SCORE BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The York College women's soccer team could not muster much of an offensive attack against St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) on Thursday, losing by a score of 4-0.
The Cardinals managed just one shot on goal on the evening, compared to 17 for the Lady Bears. St. Joseph's opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a goal by Jemy Sanchez, who put in a rebound after Cansu Usta hit a shot off the post. Usta would later get a goal of her own, scoring in the 40th minute when she stole a ball from a defender and found herself all alone for a goal.
St. Joseph's put the match out of reach in the second half, thanks in part to some sloppy play by the Cardinals. Pam Chernyakhovsky fired a long kick towards the goal that York keeper
Kiara Libreros could not hold on to. The ball slipped through her grasp and into the goal in the 54th minute.
Later, York continued to dig a hole for itself when an own goal was scored. St. Joseph's had a corner kick that hit off one of York's defenders and into the net in the 68th minute.
With the loss, York is now 1-6, while St. Joseph's is 5-1. The Cardinals visit the City College of New York on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The match will be at Randall's Island, Field #91.
