BOX SCORE 1 |
BOX SCORE 2 BELLEROSE, N.Y.- The York College softball Team lost both games of a doubleheader at home to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday. York lost game one by a score of 5-1 and the second by a final of 10-2 in five innings.
In game one, York pitcher
Priscilla Lallave pitched extremely well- giving up just three hits on the afternoon in seven innings of work. She was, however the victim of five unearned runs- four coming in the first inning of play. She also received the loss because of a stellar performance by her opponent on the mound, Mount Saint Vincent pitcher Mackenzie Heizer. She struck out 16 Cardinals on the afternoon and her sac fly in the first inning gave Mount Saint Vincent their first lead on the afternoon- they would not look back.
Her no hitter was broken up by York third baseman Thessaly Belizairo- she accounted for the Cardinals only two hits on the afternoon, and her single in the bottom of the seventh scored catcher
Geneva Faulk to close the gap to four.
Game two featured another stellar pitching performance by Mount Saint Vincent- this time coming at the hands of Kathryn Dalton. York went with
Michelle Deleon who struggled with her command and took the loss.
The Cardinals, who held Mount Saint Vincent to only one run in the last six innings of the first game- faced similar first-inning struggles. Errors plagued the club to the tune of a 4-0 deficit before their first trip to the plate.
Daltons' two-RBI single broke the game open in the top of the fourth inning, making the lead 9-1. The Cardinals last efforts in the bottom half of the inning came up short.
Sophomore center fielder
Karen Werner's RBI single plated Deleon to make it a 10-2 game; however Heizer (who had returned to pitch game 2 for the final inning) was able to get back-to-back strikeouts to end the Cardinals' comeback bid.
York now falls to 1-6 on the season; while Mount Saint Vincent continues their impressive season far- they stand at 11-2 after the pair of wins.
York will return to action on Thursday when they open up conference play against Hunter College at home at 3:30 p.m.
