RESULTS STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- The York Cardinals Men's Tennis Team fell to the College of Staten Island Dolphins by a score of 9-0 yesterday in Staten Island. The loss marked the team's fifth straight.
York failed to record a win in both singles and doubles play on the afternoon- but the play of
Hasnain Khatri was definitely a positive for the Cardinals to take away from the match.
In the 3rd singles competition of the day, Khatri went up against Chris Pinto for the Dolphins and his match went three sets. The first set he lost by a narrow 7-6 margin before winning the next 6-2. The third and final set saw Pinto win by a 10-6 margin, however Khatri showcased his skills and was the only Cardinal to win a set on the day. His match as a whole was both entertaining and exciting.
Khatri teamed up with
Jay Pal for the team's first doubles match against Staten Island's Timur Shamuradov and Daniel Ursomanno. While they put up the most points for York in doubles play, they fell by a score of 8-2.
Pal's singles record on the season dropped to 4-4 after a loss (6-2, 6-2) in the 2nd singles matchup of the day against Ursomanno.
On the season- Khatri has a singles record of 4-3 to go along with a 3-6 doubles record while teaming up with other York tennis standout
Haseeb Raza. Khatri was also recognized as the conference Player of the Week back on April 7th.
Both teams have a conference playoff spot already clinched. Staten Island improves to 3-8 and 3-3 in the conference and will next take on John Jay on Wednesday, April 23rd in Flushing.
The loss brings York's total record to 4-9 on the year and just 1-9 in CUNYAC play. Head coach
Greg Jackson's team will potentially play St. Joseph's College- Brooklyn on Thursday, April 24th before quarterfinal action kicks off on the next day. Playoff seeding's are set to be announced shortly with all updates to be immediately posted to yorkathletics.com.
