Cardinals Lose Two Matches to Ranked Teams on Second Day of Kean Tournament

UNION, N.J. –The York Cardinals Men's Volleyball team dropped matches to #15 Stevenson University and  #13 Kean University on the second day of competition in the Kean Tournament.
 
The two losses marked the Cardinals' ninth and tenth straight losses in tournament competition. Their competition was not to be taken lightly however; with Stevenson the 15th ranked team in the country and Kean the 13th.  The struggles during tournaments have responsible for 10 of the Cardinals 15 losses on the season. The Cardinals do have 16 wins on the year- and their 8-2 record in conference play keeps them a strong contender for the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) title.
 
The Cardinals dropped their first match to Stevenson University by the final score of 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-21). Edner Geffrard played well for York in the losing effort- he had a game-high nine kills and contributed six digs.  Leszek Stankiewicz added eight kills and five digs and Bryan Williams notched seven kills.  Stevenson was led by Jon Martin's eight kills, two blocks and two service aces. David Moler also chipped in 23 assists.
 
The next match of York's afternoon came against the hosting Kean. The Cougars, the 13th ranked team in NCAA Division III, needed five sets to knock off the visiting Cardinals. They were able to get the edge 3-2 (25-20, 27-29, 27-29, 26-24, 15-10). Bryan Williams and Geffrard had a game-high 21 kills apiece, while adding 12 digs and 14 digs respectively. Avinash Thomas had a game and career-high 55 assists to go along with ten digs and six kills.  Sebastien Francois chipped in 11 kills and two blocks. The highly-contested battle saw a total of 31 tie scores and 9 leads changes for the match.
 
Kean improved their record to 16-7 on the season and was led by Ed Jedziniak, who registered 18 kills, four blocks and seven digs.
 
The Cardinals will have the remainder of the week off and will look to finish the year strong with their last four matches of the season being road conference matchups.   York will take on John Jay College and Medgar Evers College in a CUNYAC multi-match next Saturday.
