Women’s Basketball Forces 49 Turnovers in Win over Medgar Evers

BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The York College women's basketball team forced 49 turnovers against Medgar Evers College on Friday and earned a much-needed, 55-28 victory.
 
York's defense stifled Medgar Evers all night. In addition to the season-high 49 turnovers forced, the Cardinals also held the Cougars to just 14 percent shooting. 
 
After a closely played first half that saw the Cardinals up by seven points at halftime, York blew the game open in the second half, outscoring the Cougars by 20 points. 
 
There were many contributors for York in the win, led by Angelika Ruggiano.  The sophomore point guard finished with six points, nine rebounds and a career-high 11 assists.  Shauncia McClendon had a team-high 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting and Asia McKenzie had nine points.  Nia Rene added nine boards and five points. 
 
York improves to 3-19, 2-11 CUNYAC, while Medgar Evers drops to 2-18, 0-12 CUNYAC.  The Cardinals will host Lehman College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.  Admission is free!
