JAMAICA, N.Y. – The York College men's soccer team could not stop the hot streak of Montclair State University, who won its 10th straight match, in a 5-0 victory over the Cardinals on Monday night
The Red Hawks were too much for the Red Birds as they scored two goals in the first eight minutes of action. Lucas Terci scored on a through ball in the second minute and later set up Mike Olla with a goal in the eighth minute. Montclair would later score off a free kick in the 38th minute to round out the first-half scoring.
In the second half, Montclair scored two early goals, in the 55th and 57th minute, to put the contest well out of reach for the Cardinals.
Montclair outshot York 27-9 and put 13 shots on target, compared to just three shots on goal for York.
Jordan Chin made eight saves in net for the Cardinals.
York falls to 5-12, while Montclair State improves to 14-3. The Cardinals will have to move on quickly, as their biggest match of the year will be this Wednesday. York visits Brooklyn College at 4 p.m. with their playoff hopes on the line. The Cardinals could potentially finish as high as fifth in the seeding for the CUNYAC Tournament with a victory, but a loss would knock them out of playoff contention completely.
