BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The York College men's soccer team's hopes of making the City University of New York Athletic Conference playoffs came to end on Wednesday with a 2-0 loss to Brooklyn College.
The Cardinals (5-13, 2-6 CUNYAC), who were tied with both Lehman College and Medgar Evers College in points, needed a victory or tie over Brooklyn in order to secure a berth in next week's CUNYAC playoffs. Although they are tied in points, York lost to both Lehman and Medgar Evers during the regular season and therefore lose out on a tiebreaker for the final two playoff spots.
On a cold and rainy afternoon, Brooklyn and York were even through 45 minutes of action, with neither squad able to score. Brooklyn outshot York 16-5 but
Jordan Chin turned away six shots.
But shortly into the second half, Brooklyn's Marco Thimm-Kaiser scored off a rebound following a shot by Andres Pertuz, to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute. York fought hard to get the equalizer, but with Cardinals attack pushing forward in the final minutes, the Bulldogs were able to put match away with a goal in the 90th minute. Pertuz scored on a through ball at 89:52.
With the loss, York finishes a disappointing 2014 campaign, while Brooklyn (7-8-1, 5-2-1) will prepare for next week's CUNYAC quarterfinal round.
