Women’s Volleyball Falls to King’s College in Opener

BOX SCORE
JAMAICA, NY— The York College women's volleyball team came up short in its first match of the 2013 campaign, losing to King's College (PA) 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-19) on Friday evening at the York College Gymnasium.

The Cardinals struggled with their efficiency, as they finished the match with 20 hitting errors and a negative hitting percentage. King's committed their share of errors as well, finishing with 21, but they had 38 more attempts and held a 32-18 advantage in kills.  The discrepancy proved to be the difference in the match.

The first two sets were controlled by Kings, as they took advantage of the hitting errors by York, while also serving up eight aces.  The Cardinals started to put it together in the third as they battled throughout the final set. York rallied from an early deficit and took a 13-11 lead following a Carlean McCrimmon ace.  But King's called a timeout, regrouped and picked its play up from there.  With the score tied at 16-16, the Lady Monarchs pulled off four straight points to pull away. They clinched the set at 25-19 with a kill by Mary Loughran.

The Lady Monarchs (1-0) were led by Emily Heimbecker, who finished with eight kills and seven digs.  Loughran added five kills, 20 assists and seven digs.

The Cardinals (0-1) were paced by Allison Li, who recorded seven kills and 12 digs.  McCrimmon finished with three aces, five blocks and 12 digs and Stayce Kay Muirhead added five kills.

York will return to action on September 7 when they take on Mount Saint Mary and Kean in a tri-match held at Mount Saint Mary.  The action begins at 11 a.m.
