Men’s Tennis to Take on Hunter in CUNYAC Quarterfinals

JAMAICA, N.Y. – The seeding for the 2013 CUNYAC Men's Tennis Championship was announced Monday morning. The Cardinals earned the number five seed and will face the fourth-seeded Hunter College Hawks in the Quarterfinal round at the USTA National Tennis Center on Friday, April 26 at 3:30 p.m.

York (4-8, 3-4 CUNYAC ) started the year off slow, losing the first six matches of the season. However, the Cardinals have managed to turn things around, going 4-2 in the last six games.

Ayman Busat finished the season with a 3-3 conference singles record and has won his last four matches, an impressive feat considering he faces each opponents' top player. Andrzej Moczulski led the Cardinals in singles victories, going 5-1 in the conference, 8-2 overall, and is riding a six-match win streak heading in to the championships.

Moczulski also found success in doubles play when coupled with Iheanyi Agbor. The pair led the team with a 4-4 overall record. Agbor and Busat also did well on the court together, going 2-1 in their doubles matchups for the season. Gary Reynoso also added four wins in doubles play to go along with his three singles victories.

Hunter is 5-7 overall and 4-3 in the CUNYAC. The Hawks have lost their final three matches heading into the championship, including a 9-0 loss to top- seeded Baruch College to closeout the regular season.

Daniel Rabinovich led the Hawks with a 5-2 conference singles record and six doubles match victories. Damen Ellingson and Binh Luu each added four singles wins, while David Jospeh, Bilal Naeem, Kevin Wang added three wins apiece. Luu also helped his teammates to four wins in doubles play.

The last time these two faced each other York was without its #1 singles player, Busat, which forced everyone to move up one spot. The Hawks took advantage, winning all singles matches in straight sets. York's lone victory came at #4 singles, where Andrzej Moczulski was a 6-1, 6-4 winner.
