Men’s Volleyball Reaches 20 Wins for First Time in School History with Win over Brooklyn

JAMAICA N.Y. — The York College men's volleyball team defeated CUNYAC rival, Brooklyn College 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-18) on Wednesday evening to reach 20 wins in a season for the first-time in school history.
The most wins for York prior to this year was 19, which they set a year ago during the 2012 season. They also improve to 8-2 in conference play with the victory.
York was led in the win by its two big hitters,
Leszek Stankiewicz and
Edner Geffrard. Both were very efficient on the night. Stankiewcz slammed ten kills with just one error (.646) and added four blocks. Geffrard finished with eight kills and hit .368, to go along with five digs and three blocks.
Avinash Thomas continued to show his versatility, as recorded ten kills, had 11 assists and added six digs. Libero
Terrence Sutton had a team-high 12 digs and setter
Jon Peter Sardea finished with 18 assists.
The Cardinals came out strong, dominating the first set as they hit .304 and cruised to a 25-13 win. In the second set, York looked like they were on its way to another easy win when they jumped out to a 19-9 lead. But Brooklyn caught fire from there and closed to within one point at 23-22. The Cardinals would hold off the Bulldogs, recording the final two points to close out the set. In the third set, York once again jumped to an early lead and held off the Bulldogs to clinch the match.
Brooklyn was led by David Dimitruk with nine kills and Timothy Hui, who added seven kills, nine assists and ten digs. Libero Ricky Myint led all players with 13 digs. The Bulldogs drop to 10-10, 6-5 in the CUNYAC.
York will return to action on Saturday when they take on Medgar Evers College and John Jay College at a multi-match at the City College of New York. York plays at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
