BOX SCORE 2
MORRISTOWN, N.J. – York freshman pitcher
Priscilla Lallave allowed just two earned runs over six innings and struck out nine batters in game one of a doubleheader but it would not be enough as the Cardinals lost to the College of St. Elizabeth, 3-1. York would drop game two as well, losing by a score of 8-0.
Game One Recap
Lallave (2-3) had her best pitching performance of the season but it came in a losing effort as she was outdueled by St. Elizabeth pitcher Catherine Eber, (1-0) who allowed just one run over seven innings, while scattering seven hits and striking out six. Lallave also led York with the bat, picking up a pair of hits.
Danielle Dunn also chipped in two hits for the Cardinals.
The Screaming Eagles picked up an unearned run in the first after a two-out error by York allowed Kelly O'Dell to come around to score from first base. The Cardinals evened up the score in the top of the third when a two-out,
Geneva Faulk single brought home Kimberley Barnes, who had singled with one out in the inning.
St. Elizabeth took back the lead in the bottom half of the inning after another two-out hit that brought home a runner from third. In the bottom of the fifth, St. Elizabeth's Ashley Pledger led the inning off with a solo homer to give the Screaming Eagles an insurance run.
The Cardinals had their chances to tie the game in the final two innings as they put the tying runs on base in both frames but Eber was able to work out of trouble twice. She would strand the tying runs on base when she got
Thessaly Belizario to fly out to end the game.
Game Two Recap
York was done in by poor fielding in the second game as five errors resulted in seven unearned runs. The Screaming Eagles put up crooked numbers in the third, fourth and fifth innings to score eight runs and win in five innings.
York could do nothing offensively in game two, as CSE pitcher Katrina Kenny (1-0) held the Cardinals to four hits over five innings, while striking out five batters. Two of York's hits came off the bat of
Joviette Frederick.
York drops to 3-6, while St. Elizabeth is 2-0. The Cardinals will return to action Thursday when they visit St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) at Padavan-Preller field in Bellerose. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
