Softball Combines for 32 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of New Rochelle

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.— The weather was cold but the bats for the York College softball team were on fire Wednesday afternoon, as the Cardinals totaled 32 runs in a pair of victories over the College of New Rochelle.  York took game one, 14-0, with pitcher Priscilla Lallave tossing a one-hit shutout and each member of the starting lineup collecting at least one hit.  In game two, York once again saw every starter collect a hit, highlighted by fourth-inning grand slam from freshman Karen Werner en route to an 18-4 triumph.

Game One Recap
The Cardinals plated 14 runs but didn't nearly that much offense, thanks to the pitching of Lallave, who tossed a complete-game one-hitter to earn her second victory of the season.  On offense, York put up crooked numbers in three of five innings.

In the second inning, a few miscues in the field by New Rochelle led to a three-run inning for the Cardinals. In the third, three bases loaded walks, a wild pitch and an RBI single by Danielle Dunn brought home five runs.  York pushed another five runs across in the fifth to round out the scoring.  The big knocks in the inning were an RBI double by Thessaly Belizario and a two-run single by Shanelle Baldwin.

Geneva Faulk went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored to lead the York bats in game one. Baldwin was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run, while Meriem Alahaine and Dunn also picked up a pair of hits.

Game Two Recap
The Cardinals scored in every inning of a five-inning game, highlighted by a five-run first inning and seven runs in the fourth.

The opening frame saw York once again benefit from a couple New Rochelle errors, while getting RBI singles from Baldwin and Dunn.  After scoring two more in the second, the Cardinals added another in the third thanks to a solo home run from Joviette Frederick

In the fourth, York loaded the bases with one out when Werner blasted a shot to centerfield for a grand slam—the first homer of her young career.  Faulk and Belizario would later add RBI singles in the inning. York would add three more in the fifth to close out the scoring.

Belizario earned the win on the mound for York, allowing just one earned run, while scattering five hits and striking out seven batters.  She also was 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored.  Werner finished 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI.  Faulk was 2-for-5 with three runs and Dunn was 2-for-4 with two runs and RBI.

York, winners of three straight, improve to 3-4 on the year with the pair of victories.  They return to action on Saturday with a road doubleheader against the College of Saint Elizabeth at noon.
