BOX SCORE
JAMAICA, N.Y. – After a sluggish start, the York College men's volleyball team found its rhythm and won in straight sets over conference-rival Lehman College by a score of 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-13). With the win, York improves to 18-11 overall and 6-2 in CUNY Athletic Conference play.
The Cardinals got off to a bit of a slow start and Lehman (11-12, 2-8 CUNYAC) took an early lead in the first set before York tied it up at 19-19. York then picked up three straight points, thanks to a kill by
Emmanuel Geffrard and then consecutive errors by Lehman. They would eventually close out the set with another kill from Geffrard.
From there, York was never challenged as they won the next two sets with ease. In the second set, York opened up a 12-3 advantage, thanks to some sloppy play by the Lightning. The Cardinals hit .333 in the set and benefitted from a -.391 hitting percentage from Lehman.
It was more of the same in the third, as York opened up an early 10-4 lead following a pair of kills from
Jhonnattan Fernandez. The Cardinals would finish with a .360 hitting percentage in the third set—its highest of the match, while Lehman once again had a negative hitting percentage.
