Women's Basketball Falls Short Against John Jay

NEW YORK, NY – Despite a valiant effort, the York College women's basketball team came up short against John Jay College of Criminal Justice Saturday night, losing 57-38.
 
York came out strong to start the game, jumping to a six-point lead in the first half but was unable to keep it. Despite causing John Jay to turn the ball over 22 times, the Cardinals were unable to capitalize, only scoring 8 points off the turnovers. Nia Rene led York with 12 points in 32 minutes, while netting 2-of-5 from beyond the three-point line. York dominated the glass on the offensive end, collectively pulling down 27 rebounds but was unsuccessful to convert from most of the second chance opportunities. Ishonda McFarland pulled down 15 rebounds of her own while adding three steals and two blocks in the loss.
 
The Bloodhounds (12-10, 9-4 CUNY) shot 43% (6-14) from three-point land. Once John Jay gained the lead they never let it go. The Bloodhounds pulled away in the second half, leading by as much as 22 with less than two minutes left, pressuring York's hopes for a rally. Danielle Eagan led all scores with 18 points to go along with 4 assists. They also received a strong defensive performance from junior forward Jamecia Forsythe, who grabbed 14 rebounds while adding three blocks and two steals.
