NEW YORK N.Y.— The York College women's volleyball team closed the 2013 regular season with a five-set victory over Yeshiva University by a score of 3-2 (25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 21-25, 15-7) and a 3-0 (25-16, 25-8, 25-10) loss to the College of Saint Elizabeth on Sunday afternoon.

Yeshiva Recap
The Cardinals looked like they were on their way to an easy, straight-set victory over the Maccabees. York won the first two sets comfortably and led 20-14 in the third, thanks to a 5-0 run.  But Yeshiva responded with its own run, winning ten of the next 12 points to go up 24-22.  After a York point, Yeshiva finished off the set after an attack error by the Cardinals.

Yeshiva used that momentum to squeeze out another victory in the fourth.  The two teams went back and forth until 21-20, when the Maccabees score four straight to force the deciding set.  But York rebounded in the fifth, jumping out to an 8-2 advantage and never looking back.

Stayce Kay Muirhead led York once again, tying her career-high in kills with 17, while hitting .355 and tallying five total blocks.  Allison LI and Kiranjeet Kaur also established new career-highs on the day. Li finished with 19 digs and Kaur nearly doubled her previous career-high in assists, recording 35.

Also chipping in for York was Shauncia McClendon with six kills and Yasheka Lewis and Antenieka Burton with five kills apiece.

Yeshiva falls to 3-14 with the loss.

St. Elizabeth Recap
Things did not go as well for the Cardinals in the second match of the day.  York was hoping to avenge an earlier loss to St. Elizabeth on September 24 but the Cardinals hit at a negative hitting percentage and allowed 16 aces.

The Screaming Eagles took advantage and won easily.  Muirhead and NaaDira Patrick led the way in defeat with five kills each. The Cardinals has no answer for St. Elizabeth's Kareemah Muhammed, who had nine kills and hit .471.

With the split, York is now 7-21.  They will head to postseason play as they visit Lehman College in the quarterfinals of the CUNY Athletic Conference Championships.  The match will take place on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Lehman.
