Turnovers Plague Women’s Basketball in Loss to Staten Island

JAMAICA, NY.— The College of Staten Island scored 30 points off turnovers and held York to 32 percent shooting en route to defeating the Cardinals women's basketball team by a score of 76-48 in the second meeting of the season on Wednesday evening.
The points off turnovers helped offset a huge rebounding advantage by the Cardinals, who pulled down 50 rebounds, including 25 offensive rebounds, compared to just 29 rebounds for Staten Island. CSI also shot the ball well all evening, converting 46 of its field goal attempts (30-of-65).
York kept it close for most of the first half, trailing by just four points (22-18) with 7:23 left. Staten Island quickly pulled away though, going on a 9-0 run to go up 31-18 with 2:48 to play. They would lead by 15 at halftime.
The second half was all Staten Island though as they continually extended their lead. Their final bucket of the game gave the Dolphins their largest lead of the night—a 28-point advantage.
Olivia Tierno led all scorers with 18 points to go along with six rebounds for the Dolphins. Melanie Johnson added 12 points and Lisa Galassa finished with 11. York's
Ishonda McFarland recorded a team-high 12 points, while
Stayce Kay Muirhead added eight points and 13 boards.
Alicia Lee added five points and a season-high 14 rebounds.
Staten Island improves to 10-8, 7-2 in the CUNYAC, while York drops to 1-16, 1-8 in the CUNYAC. The Cardinals will host the College of New Rochelle on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
