Berkeley College Erupts for Six Second-Half Goals to top Men’s Soccer

BOX SCORE
NEWARK, N.J.— A scoreless match at halftime turned into a rout as Berkeley College (NJ) exploded for six goals in the second half and defeated the York College men's soccer team by a score of 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The match was hard-fought and evenly contested in the first half, with Berkeley holding a narrow 8-6 shot advantage over the Cardinals.  But the second half was a completely different story.

Berkeley finally broke through shortly after halftime, at the 48:30 mark, and then scored again just 17 seconds later to make it a 2-0.  After 17 minutes of no scoring, Berkeley struck again when Kevin Ortiz deflected a shot into net for his second goal of the contest.

The Knights continued the second-half onslaught as they struck two more times to make it 5-0, before the Cardinals were able to get in on the scoring in the 86th minute.  Junior defender Brian Broadbelt passed to freshman forward Brian Amaya, who floated a shot from 22 yards out and past the goalkeepers' reach.  Just 40 seconds later, Berkeley rounded out the scoring when Shawn Duda put in his second goal of the contest.

With the loss, York is now 0-4-1, while Berkeley is 3-3.  The Cardinals will visit Farmingdale State College on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
