NEWARK, N.J.— After rain washed away its first two contests of the season, the York College women's tennis team finally began the season Tuesday with a road match against Rutgers-Newark. However, the Cardinals came up short, losing 8-1 to the Scarlet Raiders.

York's only win came at fourth singles, where 2011 CUNYAC All-Star, Anna Ko defeated RNU's Michelle Nagemine 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Maleeka Chin, came up short in three sets in her first collegeiate match, losing 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 at third singles.

York, 0-1, will host John Jay College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
