BOX SCORE
BROOKLYN, NY— A John Jay College goal with just six minutes remaining spoiled a potential victory for the York College men's soccer team and the Cardinals settled for a 1-1 draw instead during their first CUNY Athletic Conference game of the season, Wednesday afternoon.
York controlled the game for the first half, out-shooting John Jay, 12-6. They eventually broke through in the 41
st minute when Gbolahan Molake tossed a throw-in down the right sideline to
Andre Adelson, who took the ball up field and bent a shot into the top-left corner of the net.
It looked like York had the game all but wrapped up when John Jay's Navid Allah Morad was given a red card in the 76
th minute, forcing the Bloodhounds to play a man down the remainder of the contest. But the Bloodhounds fought hard and seemed to outplay the Cardinals in the second half, despite the disadvantage. They held a 16-7 shot advantage in the second half. They would then get the equalizer at 84:04 when Nermin Kertusi took a shot on a free kick from the right side of the box and rifled the ball in the top left corner to force overtime.
In overtime, both teams had a few decent scoring opportunities but were unable to convert. York is now 0-3-1, 0-0-1 in the CUNYAC, while John Jay is 1-3-1, 0-0-1 in CUNYAC play. The Cardinals will visit Berkeley College (NJ) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
