York Holds First Annual “Battle of the Athletes”

The York College Athletic department held its first annual “Battle of the Athletes” on Saturday.  Five teams— R.I.P, Kryptonite, Quiet Storm, White Stripes and Bombshell competed in a number of wild and crazy events in a battle for bragging rights.

Some of the crazy events included: “Nosey” (where competitors had to rub Vaseline on their noses, pick up a cotton ball with their nose and then drop the cotton ball in basket without using their hands), “Egg Toss,” (where two members of each team had to toss an egg to each other without breaking it over increasing distances), and Gambler (where team members had to balance three dice on a tongue depressor, which was sticking out of their mouth and walk it to a cone and back without dropping the dice).

"All the coaches and athletes came together and had a great time,” said softball and basketball player Danielle Dunn, who played for the White Stripes on Saturday.   “I'd love to see it as a CUNY-wide event.  My favorite event was “Cold as Ice”—which was an event to see which team could have every member finish an ice pop the fastest.

Teams were awarded points for each event based on their order of finish.  The winner of the event will be announced during the York College Athletics Awards Dinner, which will be held on Friday, May 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the York College Gymnasium.
