Tarik Weekes Runs NCAA Provisional Time and Places 2nd in 800-meters at ECAC Championships
RESULTS
NEW YORK, N.Y.— York College middle distance runner Tarik Weeks placed second overall in the 800-meter run at the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships Saturday afternoon. His time of 1:54.05 was a personal best and was an NCAA Provisional time.
The NCAA provisional standards for the 800-meter run are 1:54.40, so Weekes was able to just get under that number. Weekes is the first runner to run an NCAA provisional time for York College since Kadisha Wickham qualified in the 200-meters during the 2010 outdoor season.
An NCAA provisional time does not guarantee that Weekes will be eligible to run at the NCAA championships. If there aren't enough runners with automatic qualifying times to fill the race, the top provisional times will be selected. Weekes will know if his time is sufficient later this week.
